Permanent Hair Reduction
Throughout time, a variety of methods have been tried and tested in the pursuit of soft, smooth, hair-free skin. Unfortunately though, these methods, which include shaving, waxing and electrolysis are often messy, time consuming, painful and only provide temporary results.
Further side effects of traditional hair removal methods include ingrown hairs, shaving rash, red bumps and minor bleeding.
Thanks to advancements in technology, excess or unwanted hair can now be eliminated safely, quickly and effectively utilising Intense Pulsed Light technology.
What is IPL Hair Removal?
Intense Pulse Light Hair Removal works by penetrating the epidermis with a
wavelength of light that attacks the follicle at the growth stage. This heat
energy destroys the cells which cause the hair to grow.
As hair grows in cycles, not all follicles are damaged each time. It is therefore recommended that clients undergo a course of treatments over time to treat the entire area.

IPL is extremely safe in the hands of an experienced therapist. Our highly qualified Dermal therapists have undergone accredited IPL training courses and extensive clinic training in hair removal and skin rejuvenation.
The medical grade IPL System used by our clinic is among the minority of light technologies to be approved by the TGA (Therapeutic Goods Administration) Australia wide. If technology is approved by the Therapeutic Goods Administration you can rest assured that it complies with the highest safety standards.
At Evolve Cosmetic Clinic, we give paramount consideration to the comfort, safety and satisfaction of our clients. To ensure treatments are safe and effective, we have employed the clinically proven, advanced technology of the Alma and Orion Harmony multi-application IPL systems.
This medical grade, TGA approved IPL can be set up to ensure optimal parameters provide safe, fast and effective treatments for every individual.
Prior to commencing treatment, all of our clients must have an initial patch test to determine their suitability for IPL treatment and ascertain the correct level of exposure for their skin type.
In conjunction with this patch test, a complimentary initial consultation will enable you to discuss your goals, concerns and expectations about your treatment with our highly qualified specialists.
The sensation of the treatment is often described as similar to the feeling of a rubber band flicking against the skin. The sensation only lasts for a fraction of a second and most clients report a feeling of moderate discomfort, without anaesthesia required.
If you have concerns though or are receiving treatment on a sensitive area, our experienced therapists will be happy to discuss some pain relieving options available.
Immediately following the treatment, there will be a temporary redness (erythema) to the skin, this will disappear after a short time, with most people returning to normal activities immediately.
There are several important steps that you can take to achieve the best results from your IPL Hair Removal treatment. By following these steps you can ensure optimal results while minimising any potential discomfort. The guidelines below are discussed during your complimentary initial consultation:
- For 1 week prior to your treatment, and 1 week afterwards, avoid sun exposure or protect the area with an SPF 30+ sunscreen.
- Fake tan should not be applied to the area prior to treatment.
- Hair should not be waxed, tweezed or bleached for 4 weeks prior to treatment.
- There is no need to grow the hair prior to commencing the treatments.
IPL is contraindicated during pregnancy, breast feeding, while using photosensitising medication as well as eczema or psoriasis conditions.
The number of treatments required varies from client to client depending on skin type and hair colour. An indication of the number and intensity of treatments you will need will be provided during your initial consultation.
Laser vs. IPL
People frequently refer to IPL hair removal as laser hair removal or IPL laser hair removal. Although IPL and laser are both light-based technologies, there are distinct differences between the two.
The major difference is the wavelength of light produced. Both IPL and Laser Hair Removal work on the principle of heating up and damaging the hair follicle, however instead of using a single wavelength of light IPL utilises a flash lamp to emit various wavelengths.
IPL is a more recent technology that was developed by a Laser manufacturer with the purpose of replacing laser equipment for cosmetic use. The aim was to make various treatments possible with just one machine, rather than using different laser machines to treat each condition.
When compared with the cost of Laser treatments IPL is considerably less expensive. This is largely due to the higher costs associated with the construction of laser equipment and also the fact that Lasers must be operated by medical practitioners. Due to their superior level of safety this is not the case with IPL systems.
IPL machines typically do not require the high levels of power or energy fluence necessary for lasers. This level of power generally results in a stronger sensation for clients using Laser treatments than those undergoing IPL.
Another major difference between the two technologies is the speed of treatment. Generally IPL treatment heads are much larger than the small spot produced by lasers, therefore resulting in much faster treatment times, saving the client both time and money.
When all the facts are considered it is easy to see why IPL has become the treatment of choice for many. This breakthrough technology has provided a hair removal solution that is faster, more comfortable and often more affordable than traditional laser hair removal.
